What’s Really in That Pack of Grocery Store Ground Beef?

Most folks don’t stop to think about what’s actually in that tray of ground beef sitting under fluorescent lights at the big grocery stores.

But according to reporting from Beef Magazine, nearly 39% of ground beef trim in 2025 came from foreign sources. That means a good portion of what’s labeled and sold as “American hamburger” may not have started on American soil at all.

That’s not said to stir the pot—it’s just the reality of a global food system most people never get to see.

At Creswick Farms, we’ve chosen a different path.

Our ground beef comes from cattle born, raised, and cared for right here on our farm in Michigan. No mystery supply chains. No imported trim. No guessing where it came from or how it was handled along the way. Just honest beef, raised the way we believe food should be raised—close to home, with real accountability and real stewardship.

There’s something grounding about knowing exactly where your food comes from. You can look out across the pasture and see it for yourself. That kind of transparency doesn’t come in a box or a barcode.

And truthfully, we don’t spend much time telling folks what they should buy. We just believe this: it matters more that you support a local farmer somewhere than chasing labels that don’t always tell the full story. Real food, raised by real people, still makes a difference in a world that’s getting further removed from its roots.
