Imported Beef: What You’re Really Paying For

Lately, I’ve had a few folks asking about all this beef coming in from Argentina. So here’s the plain truth:

They say it’s meant to “lower prices for consumers.” Sounds good, right? But that’s not really what’s happening. Most of that imported beef is very lean and made from low-quality trimmings — the parts you’d never eat on their own. It gets mixed into American ground beef to create a cheaper blend.

So will you get high-quality beef for less? Not likely. The big fast-food chains pocket the savings while serving up an inferior product. Meanwhile, cattle prices drop, family farmers get paid less, and the four major beef packers continue to pad their profits. Just when small producers were finally getting a fair shot, the system found a way to pull the rug out — and make our food worse in the process.

That’s why buying direct from Creswick Farms matters. When you do, you’re keeping your food honest, your beef real, and your dollars close to home. Supporting local farms isn’t just a purchase; it’s a stand for quality, fairness, and transparency.

Thank you kindly,
Farmer Nathan Creswick
